Hi Joe,
Love this website, so helpful when researching
Im trying to find an earth diamond with the following charactistics
Color I or nice J, happy with just eye clean, around 1.2 – 1.3c, looking for the best bang for buck so flexible with budget
Thanks in advance 🙂
I liked the diamonds below. Both have GIA EX/AGS 0 Ideal proportions. The 1.21 I VS2 should be eye-clean. The crystals out at 1 o’clock are small and you can put prong close to them. The 1.3 J VVS2 has nice color for a J and seems really sharp compared to some of the other diamonds available. I didn’t intentionally look for VVS2, I looked for a nice J and a clear crystal (no strain). Let me know what you think.

The J shows a little more color saturation than the I to me, but yes, it’s a nice J. I chose this J over some others because this one popped more to me.
Usually you can swap 0.1ct/one color grade/one clarity grade and stay at the same price. Here, the J trades one color grade for 0.1ct and two clarity grades compared to the I, so I do think the J is a better value if you don’t mind the color.
I don’t think fluorescence should be relied upon to improve color. First, medium+ fluorescent diamonds can be overgraded for color (https://acagemlab.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/CowingOvergrading.pdf), so you start with a lower J. Second, any whitening will only occur with exposure to UV light to activate the fluorescence. Pretty much the only place where there’s enough UV light is outdoors (do you wear sunscreen indoors?). It will be shining very bright under the sun anyways, so that color will be very hard to see anyways.
Thanks for sending them through
It would seem to me the J color is the better buy? The color grade is lower but everything else is higher and the color doesn’t look too much different from what I can see
At the J color grade, is it worth looking for any fluorescence to offset any of the yellow tints?
