Hi Everyone,
I am having dilemma in choosing between the following diamonds. Please advise.
1) Diamond 1: 1.64ct; F color; VS1 clarity
Measurement: 7.54-7.59*4.68mm
Depth %: 61.9%
Table %: 57%
Crown angle: 34.5 degree
Pavilion angle: 41 degree
Star length %: 50%
Lower half %: 75%
Girdle %: 3.5%
2) Diamond 2: 1.55ct; E color; VVS2 clarity
Measurement: 7.4-7.46*4.6mm
Depth %: 61.9%
Table %: 56.4%
Crown angle: 34.9 degree
Pavilion angle: 40.8 degree
Star length %: 53%
Lower half %: 75%
Girdle %: 3.4%
Would you please also advise on the reason to choose one over another?
Thanks a lot for your advice in advance.
Both have optimal proportions and both should be eye-clean given their clarity grade. They’re also approximately the same size, with a difference in diameter of 0.14mm.
You can usually swap 1 clarity grade/1 color grade/0.1ct and stay at the same price in this area. If they’re the same price and both are medium fluorescence or lower, then I would prefer the 1.55 E VVS2. I personally prefer the higher color and it might be a better deal since you’re getting 2 upgrades in clarity and color for 0.1ct (only 0.14mm difference in diameter). But otherwise, go with the cheaper option. You can’t go wrong with either.
If it’s an older certificate, it’s either been sitting in inventory (in which case nothing would have changed) or someone previously bought it and it’s now back for sale (so something could have potentially happened to it during daily wear, like a chip).
If they’re willing to recertify it, then it doesn’t really matter – if it comes back the same then it’s all good. If they had gotten it recertified before you saw it, you might never have known the difference.
Hi Joe,
I received a new diamond certificate. Would you please advise on the comparison between the new one and the F colour?
1) 1.66ct; D color; VVS2 clarity
Measurement: 7.63-7.66*4.67mm
Depth %: 61.1%
Table %: 58%
Crown angle: 35 degree
Pavilion angle: 41 degree
Star length %: 50%
Lower half %: 80%
Girdle %: 3.0%
I am worried about the impact on the brilliance, fire, and sparkle that a crown/pavilion combo of 35/41 may have, in comparison to a 34.5/41 combo.
Are they the same price? If so, I’d rather have D VVS2 than F VS1. I don’t think the 0.5 crown angle difference will matter as much as the color and extra 0.1mm diameter.
Hi Joe,
The D colour Diamond is approximately $3,500 more than the F colour. In addition, I received a new certificate with the following details:
1.55ct; E Colour; VVS1 clarity
Measurement: 7.42-7.45*4.58mm
Depth %: 61.6%
Table %: 57%
Crown angle: 34.5 degree
Pavilion angle: 41 degree
Star length %: 50%
Lower half %: 75%
Girdle %: 3.5%
Please advise on the comparison between the D colour and E colour. The D colour Diamond is $2,500 more expensive than the E colour.
Hi Joe,
The certificate for the 1.55ct, E colour, diamond is from 2016, and the 1.64ct, F colour is from 2019. However, the salesperson is willing to re-certify the 1.55ct diamond. The 1.55ct is cheaper than the 1.64ct by around $1,000. I am wondering if a diamond with an older date impacts the quality & appearance of the diamond?
