Hey Joe, i need guidance on a 1.5-1.6 carat diamond in the ~$13-$16k range. This will be for an engagement ring in yellow-gold so OK with some color in the diamond.
After viewing seemingly endless diamonds, my top value pick is below. What’s your thoughts? Is there a better pick in the market?
Carat: 1.6
Color: I
Clarity: VS1
Cut: True Hearts
Price: $16,300
Table: 56
Crown Angle: 35
Pavilion: 40.8

There’s a wide range in hue and saturation for I color. This 1.6 I VS1 has a darker saturation, so even though you’re getting a yellow gold ring, I would suggest a better I.
You might consider the options below. They have better color and are better values avoiding the True Hearts premium. If you compare them side by side (e.g. https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.60-carat-i-color-vs1-clarity-true-hearts-cut-pair-15243321,15814993) you can see the difference in color (you can reformat the url to substitute the trailing SKU for any of the SKU’s below).

Sure, you might also keep an open mind about the 1.5 I VS2. Save some money with lower clarity.
Thanks Joe! I can definitely see the color difference using the pair view. I’m leaning towards the middle pick, 1371123, looks like the best diamond for the $ though the hue is a tad darker than the 1.56 H.
