Joe, you are the man. Thanks for all your work here.
Would love your analysis on this stone.
I’m considering this pear-shaped natural diamond, priced at $9200.
The GIA report is here:https://www.gia.edu/report-check?reportno=2201375226&s=1596682562444
This is from a “wholesaler” so no link to an online image, but it looks eye clean to me with minimal bow tie.
Thanks so much.
I can’t add much without seeing a video since the report doesn’t capture how the pear is cut. This diamond is relatively deep, so it faces up smaller than average for a 1.7ct. At 9.87×6.44mm, it’s the same size as the 1.51 E SI2 below (9.97×6.32mm). You could potentially save some money looking at 1.5ct diamonds with the same spread.
A video would also help calibrate what you consider eye-clean given the inclusion plot of the 1.7 E SI2 to see if the 1.51 E SI2 is a viable alternative. But if you liked the 1.7 E SI2, it might be reasonable.

Based on the 360 video, if you found the 1.7 E SI2 to be eye-clean, I think you’d find the 1.5 E SI2 to be eye-clean.
The 1.5 D SI1 from BE might be worth considering, but you’d need more info. The video isn’t set up to show bow-tie. It maybe looks stronger, but it doesn’t rotate the right way to check it. It also has medium fluorescence, which trades at a discount to none in D/E/F diamonds. I also can’t tell from the video if the faint lines I’m seeing are strain that I avoid (especially in fluorescent diamonds to avoid a hazy effect) or if it’s something else.
What about the cavity on the BE 1.5 diamond. Is that concerning?
I can’t tell where it is from the inclusion plot (the report isn’t high enough resolution). But it’s listed 3rd on the inclusion list, so most likely wouldn’t be concerned about it.
Great, thanks! Seems like you make some recommendations? The JA stone you sent looks nice. Any others you see, perhaps with lower color and SI1? 1.2 – 1.6 ct under $9000
Thanks! Yeah just noticed that about the surface area as well. At that point would rather get something closer to 1.5 with a slightly lower color and higher quality.
Here are videos in google drive, it’s from a private dealer.

What about this one from brilliant earth that I think actually has greater surface area than the 1.7 stone and is higher clarity than the JA option you sent.
