Hey Joe,
Love what you’ve built. I’m a data driven guy too and really value the framework you’ve built to sort through the industry terminology.
Wanted to ask what you thought of this stone?
https://www.yadavjewelry.com/diamond/round-diamond-3.11-carat-d-si2-yd7997495
I feel like the inclusion at 3 o’clock could be covered with a prong, leaving an otherwise pretty clean stone. These would be the other alternatives I am considering:
Trading down in colour – https://www.yadavjewelry.com/diamond/round-diamond-3.05-carat-i-vs2-yd9144428
Trading down in size – https://www.yadavjewelry.com/diamond/round-diamond-2.5-carat-g-vs2-yd9179809
What’s do you think Joe? What set of compromises do you think offers the best value and is there anything I might be missing?
Cheers,
Jake
You won’t be able to put a prong over the feather in the 3.11 D SI2. That’s too much pressure on what is essentially a crack that extends from the crown side to the pavilion side through the girdle. You could put a prong close to it, but you won’t be able to cover it.
The link for the 3.05 I VS2 isn’t working for me, but I suspect that’s too much of a color trade-off given it’s a lab diamond.
And then there is no picture of the 2.5 G VS2 available to determine the color hue and fuzziness from the CVD strain process. I suspect the diamond has strain and reduced transparency since the inclusion map shows a large cloud throughout the pavilion (the dashed circle).
Any other diamonds that you saw on their site?
I would skip the 2.62 F SI1. That black cloud will be visible in the reflections in the other facets.
I think the 3.02 G SI1 is brown, but might be worth it to hit 3ct.
I like the 2.40 E VS1.
So then it’s up to you what you value more.
Thanks Joe! Appreciate the quick reply and really appreciate your time and expertise.
Looks like the 3.02 I VS2 has been sold, hence the dead link
These would be the next choices:
A couple more with edge inclusions:

https://www.yadavjewelry.com/diamond/round-diamond-2.62-carat-f-si1-yd9202391
Do you think they’d be subject to the same problem as the original?
And if we go down in size to get past the clarity compromises:

What do you think Joe? Thanks a lot for your help.
Cheers,
Mario
