Hi love the site! My preferences are:
- Shape: Round
- Color: I+ (anything I and above)
- Clarity: VS1+ (anything VS1 and above)
- Cut: Excellent
- Carat: 1.5+
- Price range: 15kish range
Here are my 3 candidates so far:
My questions:
Is it worth to pay 5k to go from ~1.6 to ~1.7 carat?
I have relatively low standards for the color; what is the advised pricepoint and the color rating I should aim for?
I wouldn’t use this particular 1.6ct diamond as a comparison because it is overgraded for color and has a slightly green hue. That’s reflected in the price, so the $5k difference isn’t just for 0.1ct.
Of the other two diamonds, I like the 1.74 I VS1 more than the 1.75 I VS1. I think it looks sharper. So then the comparison is whether the 1.74 I VS1 is worth $3-4k more than the diamonds below. The first two diamonds strictly meet your criteria – for them I think it depends on how much you really want to hit 1.7ct. If that’s not required, then I’d save the money with the 1.5ct diamonds.
You could also meet somewhere in the middle with the 1.6 G SI1 – trade 0.1ct and two clarity grades for two color grades and $2500. I would prefer that since the diamond will be an eye-clean SI1 and show better color.
